Mahesh Bhatt, an iconic figure in the realm of Indian cinema, is celebrated for his remarkable contributions as a director, producer, and screenwriter. Born on September 20, 1948, his cinematic journey has been nothing short of extraordinary.

One of the standout films from his early career, "Saaransh" (1984), made waves on the international stage, being screened at the 14th Moscow International Film Festival and even representing India as its official entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. 

In 1986, Mahesh Bhatt transitioned into commercial cinema with "Naam," marking a new era in his directorial career. Over the years, he crafted a diverse portfolio, delivering art-house gems like "Daddy" (1989) and "Swayam" (1991), alongside blockbuster romantic hits such as "Awaargi" (1990), "Aashiqui" (1990), and "Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin" (1991). His collaboration with actor Aamir Khan in the latter film left an indelible mark on Bollywood.

The 1990s witnessed Bhatt's rise to critical acclaim with films like "Sir" (1993), "Gumraah" (1993), and "Criminal" (1994). His exceptional directorial skills earned him the National Film Award – Special Jury Award for "Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke" (1993) and "Tamanna" (1996), which won the National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues.

Mahesh Bhatt's directorial prowess extended into his autobiographical work, "Zakhm" (1999), which received the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration.

Beyond directing, he co-founded Vishesh Films with his brother, forging a legacy in producing contemporary blockbusters, including "Raaz" (2002), "Jism" (2003), "Murder" (2004), and many more. His distinctive music choices, exemplified by the hit album of "Aashiqui," influenced the Bollywood music landscape.

Mahesh Bhatt's enduring legacy goes beyond filmmaking; he is renowned for launching the careers of several actors and actresses, nurturing talent, and transforming them into household names in Bollywood. He has consistently given breakthrough opportunities to budding stars, forever altering the course of their careers.
